Pipe Sizing, Air Control and Pumping Away

April 23: Residential Focus
Presented by John Barba, Dave Holdorf, and Rick Mayo

In this edition of Taco Tuesday, you’ll learn how to properly size your boiler header and distribution piping based on the BTUH load. You’ll also learn the difference between an air scoop and an air eliminator, how both work, and why they work best on the supply side.
And speaking of the supply side, this fast-paced, fact-filled hour will go into detail on circulator location, pumping away, and what can happen if the wrong circulator is used in the wrong place.

    System Curves and Pump Curves

    May 21: Residential Focus
Presented by John Barba, Dave Holdorf, and Rick Mayo

If you want to get to the heart of residential hydronics, you’ll need to understand System Curves, Pump Curves and how they interact. Flow, head loss, and circulator selection have more to say about system performance than we’ve ever given them credit for, and in this fast-paced, fact-filled hour, we’ll show you why.
You’ll learn where pump performance curves come from and what a system curve is. And, most importantly, you’ll learn why knowing both may change the way you look at circulator selection, even if you’re using an ECM variable speed circulator.

What is Cv and Why Does it Matter?

      June 18: Residential Focus
Presented by John Barba, Dave Holdorf, and Rick Mayo

Circulators are sized according to flow and head, but the most common question we hear is, “How do I find them?” In this program, you’ll learn how to calculate those two critical factors for residential hybrids. But you’ll also learn how mixing valves, zone valves, and other types of valves can add hidden head loss to your systems. This thing known as Cv can trip you up if you’re not careful.
