Taco Efficiency Workshop for Modern Residential Hydronics

Part of Taco University

New for 2026, the Taco Efficiency Workshop is a Taco University residential training program designed to help you maximize hydronic system performance across cast iron, mod-con, and air-to-water heat pump applications. These principles apply across system types and help ensure comfort and efficiency in modern residential hydronic systems.

This two-day, in-person workshop at the Taco Cranston, Rhode Island facility focuses on the fundamentals that drive real-world system performance.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • Why proper heat loss calculations support maximum system efficiency
  • Circulator essentials and proper application
  • The true capabilities of variable speed pumps
  • Circulators vs. zone valves and when to use each
  • How electronic controls simplify wiring and improve system performance
  • Mod-con boiler piping and when to use closely spaced tees, hydraulic separators, or buffer tanks
  • How low-temperature hydronics improve system operation
  • How to interpret indirect water heater specifications in real-world applications
  • Why domestic hot water recirculation systems benefit from proper sizing
  • Proven methods for troubleshooting common hydronic system issues

This program focuses on practical, real-world applications to everyday jobsite challenges, while dispelling common myths in our industry. You’ll leave with knowledge you can apply in any mechanical room, whether you work in the office or in the field, regardless of the equipment you encounter.

The program also includes an in-depth tour of Taco’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, engaging instruction from Taco experts, meals, hotel accommodations, and takeaway materials to help reinforce what you learned on-site.
